Common usage vs consistencyISN’T it wrong to translate “Portuguese” to “ orang Portugis ” in Malay? Why can’t we just call them “orang Portugal”? If we meet a Chinese person, we call him/her “ orang Cina ”, not “ orang Cainis ”. The same goes with Japanese (“ orang Jepun ,” not “ orang Japanis ”) and Javanese (“ orang Jawa ,” not “ orang Javanis ”).
